EX-S-MAX-5 floor-to-ceiling Maine Coon cat tree – double hammock and large cat house

The EX-S-MAX-5 floor-to-ceiling Maine Coon cat tree is an extensive tension-mounted structure from the MAX range. It combines exceptionally thick scratching posts, two soft hammock levels, a large round platform and an elevated cat house with an additional bed on top. The model uses the height of the room to create vertical space for scratching, climbing, observing and resting. The complete structure is stabilised between the floor and ceiling by a robust tensioning mechanism based on an M12 screw.

EX-S-MAX-5 has been developed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large, heavy and active cats. Its construction takes into account not only the weight of an animal resting quietly, but also the considerably greater forces generated when the cat jumps at speed, climbs the posts, stops suddenly on an upper level or pushes away from a laterally extending component.

The defining feature of this model is the combination of open and sheltered resting areas. The cat can choose the round platform, either level of the double hammock, the interior of the large house or the upper bed positioned on its roof. EX-S-MAX-5 therefore suits cats that enjoy observing the room as well as animals seeking a quieter place to sleep.

A floor-to-ceiling MAX structure for large and heavy cats

EX-S-MAX-5 is not a conventional tension-mounted cat tree fitted merely with larger beds. It is a genuine MAX structure in which the principal components have been adapted to the proportions and movement of a large cat.

The 18 cm diameter posts form a substantial structural axis and provide broad scratching surfaces. The double hammock has a 70 × 70 cm frame, the round platform measures 60 cm in diameter and the internal diameter of the house is 50 cm. These dimensions allow an adult Maine Coon to position its body much more freely than on the small shelves and inside the restricted houses found on many conventional cat trees.

With a Maine Coon weighing 12–14 kg, the dimensions of the beds are not the only important factor. The hammock frame, connections between post sections, platform and house fixings and the complete ceiling stabilisation system must also retain adequate rigidity.

Stability during energetic Maine Coon jumps

The greatest loads do not occur while a cat is resting quietly inside the house or on the platform. Much greater forces act on the cat tree during active use—when a heavy animal jumps into the hammock at speed, lands on the upper bed, climbs a post or pushes away from one component towards another.

Dynamic loading can be considerably greater than the pressure resulting from the animal’s stationary body weight. The stability of EX-S-MAX-5 therefore depends on the complete system: the base, 18 cm posts, threaded connections, hammock frame, platform and house fixings and correctly tensioned ceiling mechanism.

The upper pressure plate restricts movement of the tall central axis and helps absorb forces acting on components that extend beyond the line of the posts. The tensioning system does not replace correct assembly, however. The cat tree must be securely connected, vertically aligned and firmly supported between a flat floor and a suitably strong ceiling.

Robust M12 floor-to-ceiling tensioning system

The upper section of EX-S-MAX-5 is stabilised by a tensioning mechanism based on an M12 screw. The system allows final height adjustment and creates controlled pressure between the base standing on the floor and the upper plate positioned against the ceiling.

The M12 screw does more than regulate height. When correctly adjusted, it creates a second support point for the tall cat tree and helps reduce movement during climbing, scratching and jumping onto the hammock, platform and house.

The durability of the structure does not depend on the screw alone. The rigidity of the posts and wooden elements, correctly tightened connections, secure positioning of the lateral components and even contact between the base and ceiling plate are equally important. EX-S-MAX-5 should be treated as one integrated structural system.

Manufactured to the actual height of the room

Every EX-S-MAX-5 is manufactured according to the room height supplied when the order is placed. Before purchase, the vertical distance from the finished floor to the ceiling must be measured precisely at the final installation point.

The measurement should not be based solely on architectural documentation. Floors and ceilings may have slight slopes or local irregularities. It is advisable to take several measurements close to the intended position and provide the actual height of the finished room.

The correct dimension directly affects the adjustment range of the M12 mechanism and the pressure that can be achieved. A substantial difference between the supplied measurement and the actual room height may make installation difficult or prevent correct stabilisation.

A suitably strong ceiling and stable floor

The upper pressure plate should rest against a flat, stable and suitably strong part of the ceiling. The tensioning mechanism produces pressure, so the surface above the cat tree must be capable of carrying it safely.

With a suspended ceiling, lightweight boards, ceiling tiles, decorative panels or another surface that is not itself a rigid structural element, suitability should be checked before installation. A thin board or decorative covering should not automatically be treated as an appropriate support point.

The floor is equally important. The base should make even contact with a flat and stable surface. A thick carpet, soft floor covering or material that gradually compresses under pressure may affect vertical alignment and subsequent tension.

60 × 60 cm base and the actual installation area

EX-S-MAX-5 stands on a 60 × 60 cm base. Compared with a very wide freestanding cat tree, its principal floor footprint is relatively compact because the model uses the height of the room.

The base forms the lower support point of the complete construction. Working together with the ceiling plate, it carries the weight of the cat tree and the cats using it, as well as the forces generated during dynamic movement between levels.

The hammock, round platform and house extend beyond the outline of the base. The actual installation area is therefore considerably larger than 60 × 60 cm. Sufficient space should be left for lateral jumps, the long body of a Maine Coon, hanging paws and tail, and safe access to and from the structure.

Substantial 18 cm diameter scratching posts

One of the principal features of EX-S-MAX-5 is its 18 cm diameter scratching posts. They are considerably thicker than the posts used on many standard floor-to-ceiling cat trees.

The increased diameter provides a broad sisal-rope surface. A Maine Coon can position its front paws high, grip firmly with its claws and use the posts both for claw care and for climbing and pulling its complete body upwards.

The thick posts also form the substantial load-bearing axis of the tall structure. This is particularly important when a large cat jumps onto the side hammock, platform or house and loads the cat tree laterally as well as vertically.

The total length of the post axis is adapted to the height of the particular room. The individual sections provide scratching and climbing surfaces between the successive levels.

70 × 70 cm double hammock

One of the main resting components is a double hammock with a 70 × 70 cm frame. Its cover forms an approximate resting area of 45 × 65 cm and creates two soft levels positioned one above the other.

The double design increases the number of available places without making the complete structure significantly wider. The cat can choose the upper or lower level according to temperature, its need to observe the room and its preferred degree of enclosure.

The upper section remains more open and can function as an observation point. The lower level is partly sheltered by the material above and may suit a cat seeking a quieter position.

The hammock fabric adapts beneath the cat’s weight and supports the body differently from a rigid shelf. A Maine Coon can settle into the surface, curl up and support its head or paws against the edge.

The hammock remains open and allows easy access from the appropriate side. At the same time, the soft fabric partly surrounds the torso and provides greater lateral support than a completely flat platform.

60 cm round platform

EX-S-MAX-5 includes a round platform with a diameter of 60 cm. It is a large stable surface that can serve as an intermediate level, observation point and full-sized area for shorter or prolonged rest.

A diameter of 60 cm gives an adult Maine Coon considerably more room than the small steps found on many conventional floor-to-ceiling structures. The cat can stand with its complete body supported, turn around, sit, lie down or prepare to move to the next level.

The platform also creates a more convenient route between the lower and upper sections. The cat does not have to make one exceptionally high jump but can use the round surface as a stable climbing stage.

A soft cushion attached with hook-and-loop fasteners separates the cat’s body from the rigid wooden element. It can be removed for hair removal, platform cleaning or later replacement.

Large elevated house with a 50 cm internal diameter

The most sheltered component of EX-S-MAX-5 is a hanging or elevated cat house with a 50 cm internal diameter and a height of 41 cm. It has been developed as a full-sized resting zone for a large cat rather than a small decorative hideaway.

The internal diameter represents the actual space available inside the house. An adult Maine Coon can enter, turn around and settle in a more protected position. Comfort will also depend on the individual cat’s body length, width and preferred sleeping posture.

The house allows the animal to withdraw from direct view of household members and other cats. It can be used for prolonged sleep, quiet rest after play or retreat from activity in the room.

A soft pillow completes the interior. It can be removed for more thorough cleaning or later replaced with the pillow supplied in the separate textile set.

56 cm upper bed on the house

The roof of the elevated house forms an additional upper bed with a diameter of 56 cm. One structural component therefore gives the cat two different places: a sheltered interior and an open surface above it.

The upper bed can function as an observation point, a place for a short rest or a sleeping area for a cat that prefers to remain in view. Its elevated position provides a different perspective from the platform and hammock.

A soft hook-and-loop cushion improves comfort and can be removed for cleaning or replacement. A diameter of 56 cm provides a large cat with a suitable area for the torso, although the paws or tail may naturally extend beyond the edge.

Combining the house and upper bed is also useful in a multi-cat home. One animal may rest inside while another uses the surface above, provided their relationship allows them to remain this close to one another.

Five functional resting zones

Counting both hammock levels, the round platform, the interior of the house and the upper bed, EX-S-MAX-5 creates five functional resting zones. Each has a different character and occupies a different height.

The hammock provides soft flexible support. The platform forms a stable open surface. The house interior offers greater enclosure, while the upper bed functions as an elevated observation point.

This variety allows the cat to change location according to temperature, sunlight, household activity, the presence of other animals and its immediate need for observation or privacy.

Open and sheltered places in one model

EX-S-MAX-5 is particularly suitable for cats that use different forms of rest throughout the day. Some animals sleep on an open surface while monitoring their surroundings and later move into the house when they require greater quiet.

The round platform and upper hammock section provide a broad field of vision. The lower hammock level partly surrounds the body, while the house interior creates the most enclosed and secluded space.

The owner therefore does not have to choose between a completely open model and a cat tree equipped only with an enclosed house. EX-S-MAX-5 combines both solutions in one tall structure.

A vertical route for climbing and everyday activity

EX-S-MAX-5 uses the room height as a vertical activity route. The cat can move between the platform, house and hammock, climb the thick posts and occupy progressively higher positions.

For a young and active Maine Coon, climbing opportunities are as important as a sufficiently large bed. Movement between levels engages the muscles, requires balance and satisfies the natural preference for remaining well above floor level.

The cat tree can be used throughout the day for stretching after waking, claw care, energetic climbing, observing household activity, play and quiet sleep inside the house or hammock.

For one large cat or several animals

Five varied zones make EX-S-MAX-5 an extensive structure for one highly active Maine Coon or shared vertical territory for several compatible cats.

Individual animals may occupy different levels: one can use the platform, another the hammock and another the house or upper bed. The number of places does not guarantee simultaneous use by every group of cats, however. This depends on their temperament, relationships and preferred personal distance.

When several large cats use the structure, loads may occur simultaneously at different heights and from several directions. Correct M12 ceiling tension, securely tightened connections and periodic inspection become especially important.

Removable washable double-hammock cover

The double-hammock cover can be removed easily and washed at temperatures up to 40°C. This makes thorough removal of hair, dust and everyday dirt from the surface in direct contact with the cat easier.

Washability is especially useful with large long-haired cats. Maine Coons use their beds intensively and leave considerable amounts of hair, so a removable cover helps keep the hammock in suitable condition.

The cover should be completely dry and correctly attached to the frame before being refitted. The condition of the fabric and the areas carrying the greatest body load should also be checked periodically.

Separate replacement textile set

A separate set containing one double-hammock cover, two hook-and-loop cushions and one pillow is available for EX-S-MAX-5. It allows the principal resting surfaces to be renewed without replacing the base, posts, frames or house.

Textile components may wear before the wooden structural parts, particularly when several heavy cats use the cat tree every day. The availability of a complete replacement set extends the practical service life of the product.

A second set can be used while the first is being cleaned or selected later to change the colour of the cat tree.

Service and replaceable components

EX-S-MAX-5 is intended for long-term use. Wear to one cover, cushion, pillow, post or another individual component does not necessarily require replacement of the complete cat tree.

The possibility of renewing selected parts is particularly important with large cats that place greater loads on the beds and use sisal surfaces more intensively.

Regular inspection of the rope, textiles, hammock frame, house fixing, post connections and tensioning mechanism helps identify components requiring cleaning, tightening or replacement.

Customisable appearance

Available fabric, wood, house-interior, mat and rope options can be selected during configuration. Options concerning the upper lid, entrance, base, underside finish and engraving are also available.

A floor-to-ceiling cat tree is a tall and highly visible part of the interior. Coordinating the wood, fabric, mat and rope allows EX-S-MAX-5 to suit a living room, bedroom, dedicated cat room or cattery.

The visible wooden components give the structure the character of a piece of furniture, while the large hammock, soft cushions and pillow inside the house create comfortable areas for everyday rest.

Correct installation and periodic tension checks

The safety of EX-S-MAX-5 depends on correct assembly. After installation, vertical alignment, even base contact, connection tightness, stability of the house and hammock frame and correct M12 tension should all be checked.

The cat tree should be inspected again after the first days of intensive use. Components may settle slightly under pressure, while repeated jumps by a heavy cat gradually affect the complete system.

Inspection should be repeated periodically and after moving the cat tree, changing the floor covering, renovating the room or noticing increased movement. The tensioning mechanism should remain firmly supported between a stable floor and a suitably strong ceiling.

Which cats is EX-S-MAX-5 designed for?

The model has been developed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large and active cats. It is best suited to animals that enjoy climbing, soft hammocks, open observation points and the option of retreating into a large house.

EX-S-MAX-5 is particularly suitable for a cat that frequently changes how it rests. The platform and upper bed provide stable open surfaces, the hammock creates two soft levels and the house offers a quieter sleeping zone.

Before purchase, consider the cat’s size, weight, age, mobility and jumping style, as well as the number of animals in the home. The precise room height, ceiling and floor construction and adequate space around the extending components are also important.
