Freestanding and suspended cat exercise wheels in three sizes, intended for indoor use. A wheel lock and adjustable mechanical brake allow the cat to use the wheel under the owner’s supervision.

Cat exercise wheels – additional indoor activity

A cat exercise wheel provides an opportunity for movement and adds variety to everyday activity. It may be particularly appealing to active indoor cats that need additional stimulation and opportunities to move at home.

The wheel is intended exclusively for domestic cats and indoor use. It is an enrichment toy providing movement, entertainment and behavioural stimulation. It is not a training, rehabilitation or medical device and must not be used to force a cat into intensive or prolonged running.

Freestanding cat wheels with an undercarriage

A freestanding wheel consists of the wheel and a low undercarriage. The structure is made from birch plywood, and the running surface is covered with carpet. The wheel operates on polyurethane rollers fitted with ball bearings.

The mechanism contains eight supporting rollers, four stabilising rollers and two braking rollers. The product has a rotation lock and an adjustable brake controlling wheel speed. It is supplied as two components, and preparation consists of correctly placing the wheel in the undercarriage.

Suspended wheels with a supporting frame

In suspended models, the birch-plywood wheel is mounted on a steel axle operating in two self-aligning ball bearings. The zinc-plated steel supporting structure is enclosed with plywood components and rests on a wooden base.

These models also have a rotation lock and an adjustable mechanical brake. The brake increases resistance and limits the rotational speed so that the wheel cannot accelerate excessively.

Three wheel sizes

The freestanding and suspended models use wheels with the same basic dimensions. The wheel is 32 cm deep, and the running surface is 28.7 cm wide.

  • small: external diameter 100 cm, internal diameter 88 cm, maximum cat weight 4 kg;
  • medium: external diameter 120 cm, internal diameter 108 cm, maximum cat weight 6 kg;
  • large: external diameter 135 cm, internal diameter 123 cm, maximum cat weight 8 kg.

These weights are the maximum permitted values specified in the instructions, not general recommendations. Exceeding the maximum weight may damage the structure and increase the risk of injury.

Also consider the cat’s body length and back position inside the wheel. The cat should be able to move without adopting a clearly unnatural or excessively curved posture.

Dimensions of freestanding wheels

  • small: base 45 × 105 cm, total height 107.5 cm;
  • medium: base 45 × 125 cm, total height 127.5 cm;
  • large: base 45 × 140 cm, total height 142.5 cm.

The undercarriage itself is 42 cm high in every freestanding model.

Dimensions of suspended wheels

  • small: base 60 × 80 cm, total height 109.5 cm;
  • medium: base 60 × 90 cm, total height 129.5 cm;
  • large: base 60 × 100 cm, total height 144.5 cm.

Before purchasing, consider both the product dimensions and the free space the cat needs to enter, leave and move safely around the rotating wheel.

Wheel lock and brake adjustment

Before first use, check the stability of the structure, free wheel rotation, lock operation and brake setting. Adjust the resistance so that the wheel cannot reach excessive speed. Insufficient resistance may increase the risk of the cat losing its balance and falling out.

The wheel must remain locked whenever the owner is absent. It has an open construction without complete guards separating the cat from all moving components. The risk of losing balance, falling out or coming into contact with a rotating element therefore cannot be completely eliminated.

Safe-use principles

  • the wheel may only be used under the owner’s supervision;
  • only one cat may use it at a time;
  • children and other animals should be kept away while the wheel is moving;
  • do not position it near stairs or anywhere from which it could fall;
  • place it on a level and stable surface;
  • use it only in dry indoor conditions, never outdoors or in high humidity;
  • do not use the product if any component is loose or damaged;
  • freestanding wheels with an undercarriage are not recommended for very small kittens;
  • do not modify the construction.

Inspection and maintenance

Inspect the wheel regularly. On freestanding models, check the rollers, bearings, screws, brake and running surface. On suspended models, check the axle, bearings, fixing components, brake setting and structural stability.

Stop using the wheel immediately if excessive play, unusual noise, increased rotational resistance or structural damage appears. Clean the surfaces with a dry or slightly damp cloth without aggressive detergents.

The wooden components are finished with polyurethane varnish complying with DIN EN 71-3. The finish colour can be selected when configuring the product.
