The ceiling support helps limit movement of the tall structure and transfers forces produced when the cat jumps onto high or laterally extending elements. It does not replace correct assembly. Every component must be securely connected, the cat tree must stand vertically and the pressure of the upper plate must be adjusted correctly.

Robust ceiling tensioning system with an M12 screw

The upper section of EX-S-MAX-1 is stabilised by a robust tensioning mechanism based on a thick M12 screw. It allows the structure to be matched to the room height and creates pressure between the base on the floor and the upper plate resting against the ceiling.

The tensioning screw does more than adjust the height. When correctly set, it creates a second support point for the tall cat tree and helps restrict movement during climbing and energetic jumping.

The screw is not the only component responsible for stability. The rigidity of all sections, the quality and tightness of the threaded connections, correct positioning of the hammocks and even contact between the base and floor are equally important. EX-S-MAX-1 should be treated as one integrated structural system.

Made to the actual height of the room

Each EX-S-MAX-1 is manufactured according to the room height provided when ordering. Before purchase, the vertical distance from the finished floor to the ceiling must be measured precisely at the intended installation point.

The measurement should not be based solely on the height stated in building plans. Floors and ceilings may vary locally, so the distance should be checked exactly where the cat tree will stand. Taking several measurements close to the intended position is advisable.

The correct dimension directly affects adjustment of the tensioning mechanism and the pressure that can be achieved. A substantial measuring error may make installation difficult or prevent the structure from being stabilised correctly.

Suitable ceiling and floor surfaces

The upper pressure plate should rest against a flat, stable and suitably strong part of the ceiling. The system produces pressure, so the mounting surface must be capable of carrying it safely.

With a suspended ceiling, lightweight construction, decorative panels or another surface that is not itself a rigid structural element, suitability must be checked before installation. A thin board or decorative covering should not automatically be treated as an appropriate ceiling support point.

The floor is equally important. The base should make even contact with a flat and stable surface. A thick carpet, soft floor covering or uneven floor may affect vertical alignment and the subsequent tension of the system.

60 × 60 cm base and efficient use of floor space

EX-S-MAX-1 stands on a 60 × 60 cm base. Compared with an extensive freestanding cat tree, its principal floor footprint is relatively compact because the model uses the height of the room.

The base forms the lower support point and carries the weight of the complete structure and the cats using it. Its stable interaction with the upper ceiling plate creates a tall axis between the floor and ceiling.

The three hammocks nevertheless extend beyond the outline of the base. The actual installation area is therefore larger than 60 × 60 cm. Adequate space must be left for jumping, turning, the cat’s tail and safe access to and from each bed.

For a large cat, the usable resting surface is more important than the outside frame dimension. The external measurement does not always represent the space available inside the fabric. On EX-S-MAX-1, the 55 × 62 cm surface allows an adult Maine Coon to position its torso, curl up, lie on its side or rest its head and paws against the edge.

A hammock supports the body differently from a rigid platform. The material adapts beneath the cat’s weight, partly surrounds the body and creates a softer sleeping position. For many cats, such a hammock becomes the preferred place for extended rest.

Three independent resting levels

The three hammocks create separate resting places at successive levels of the tall structure. The cat can change position according to temperature, sunlight, household activity and its need to observe the room.

The upper level can serve as an observation point, while the lower hammocks provide more readily accessible beds. The cat does not have to climb to the very top each time it wants to use a full-sized resting surface.

Three separate zones are also practical in a multi-cat home. Individual animals may choose different heights instead of competing for one hammock. Simultaneous use will always depend on the relationship, size and temperament of the particular cats.

A vertical climbing route

The tension-mounted EX-S-MAX-1 uses the full room height as a vertical activity route. The cat can move between the hammocks, climb the posts, grip the sisal and occupy progressively higher positions.

Open design for cats that like to observe

EX-S-MAX-1 does not include an enclosed house or tunnel. Its three hammocks remain open and provide a broad view of the room. The model is particularly suitable for cats that prefer to monitor their surroundings and are reluctant to sleep inside fully enclosed dens.

The absence of a house does not mean that the cat receives no surrounding support. The hammock fabric adapts to the body and partly encloses its sides, while still allowing easy entry, exit and observation in several directions.
