EX-S-MAX-2 floor-to-ceiling Maine Coon cat tree – two large hammocks and a double hammock

The EX-S-MAX-2 floor-to-ceiling Maine Coon cat tree is an extensive tension-mounted structure combining a vertical floor-to-ceiling design with the enlarged components of the MAX range. It features substantial 18 cm diameter scratching posts, two full-sized single hammocks and a double hammock providing two additional resting levels. The complete structure is stabilised between the floor and ceiling by a robust M12 tensioning system.

EX-S-MAX-2 has been developed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large, heavy and active cats. Its design takes into account not only the stationary weight of a resting animal but also the considerably greater forces produced when a cat jumps at speed, climbs the posts, changes direction suddenly or pushes away from an elevated hammock.

The model uses almost the complete height of the room to create vertical space for scratching, climbing, observing and resting. Despite providing four resting levels, its principal floor footprint remains limited to a 60 × 60 cm base.

A floor-to-ceiling MAX structure for the largest cats

EX-S-MAX-2 is not a conventional tension-mounted cat tree fitted merely with larger hammocks. It is a full MAX structure in which the post diameter, frame dimensions, usable resting surfaces and method of stabilisation have all been selected for large cats.

A Maine Coon may weigh 12–14 kg, have a long body and generate considerable force when jumping. With such a cat, the dimensions of the bed are not the only important factor. The hammock frames, connections between sections, posts and ceiling support must also remain rigid under active use.

The combination of 18 cm posts and four resting places allows the model to function as an extensive structure for one large cat or as shared vertical territory for several compatible animals.

Four principal resting places

EX-S-MAX-2 provides a total of four principal resting levels: two large single hammocks and two levels created by the double hammock. This arrangement offers more resting places than a design based only on single beds, without requiring the complete structure to become excessively wide.

The hammocks are positioned at different heights, allowing the cat to choose according to temperature, sunlight, household activity and its need to observe the room. It does not have to climb to the highest level each time it wants to use a full-sized bed.

Four zones are also practical in a multi-cat home. Individual animals can occupy different heights rather than compete for one place. Shared use will nevertheless always depend on their relationship, temperament and preferred distance from one another.

Stability during energetic Maine Coon jumps

The greatest load on a tall cat tree is not produced by a cat lying still in a hammock. Much greater forces act on the structure when a heavy Maine Coon jumps into a side bed at speed, climbs a post, stops suddenly on an upper level or pushes away from a hammock to make another jump.

With a large cat, dynamic loading can be many times greater than the pressure resulting from stationary body weight. The stability of EX-S-MAX-2 therefore depends on the complete system: the rigid base, thick posts, strong connections, hammock frames and correctly tensioned ceiling mechanism.

The upper plate restricts movement of the tall central axis and helps absorb forces acting on elements that extend laterally. The tensioning system does not replace correct assembly, however. The structure must be securely connected, vertically aligned and correctly supported between a stable floor and a suitably strong ceiling.

M12 ceiling tensioning system

The upper section of EX-S-MAX-2 is stabilised by a tensioning mechanism based on an M12 screw. The system allows the final height to be adjusted and creates controlled pressure between the base on the floor and the upper ceiling plate.

The M12 screw does more than regulate height. When correctly adjusted, it creates a second support point for the tall structure and helps reduce movement during energetic climbing and jumping.

The strength of the complete cat tree does not depend on the tensioning screw alone. Correctly tightened threaded connections, rigid posts and frames, vertical alignment and even contact between the support surfaces are equally important. EX-S-MAX-2 should be treated as one integrated structural system.

Manufactured to the actual room height

Every EX-S-MAX-2 is manufactured according to the height supplied when the order is placed. Before purchase, the distance between the finished floor and ceiling must be measured precisely at the final installation point.

The measurement should not be based solely on architectural plans. Floors and ceilings may contain small slopes or local irregularities. It is best to take several measurements close to the intended location and provide the actual finished room height.

The correct dimension directly affects the adjustment range of the M12 mechanism and the pressure that can be achieved. A substantial difference between the supplied measurement and the actual room height may make installation difficult or prevent correct stabilisation.

A suitably strong ceiling

The upper plate should press against a flat, stable and sufficiently strong section of the ceiling. The tensioning mechanism produces pressure, so the surface above the cat tree must be capable of carrying it safely.

With a suspended ceiling, lightweight boards, ceiling tiles, decorative panels or another finish that is not itself a rigid structural element, suitability must be checked before installation. A thin surface layer should not automatically be treated as an appropriate support point.

If there is an empty space or fragile structure behind the visible ceiling surface, it may be necessary to select another position, provide appropriate reinforcement or obtain advice regarding installation.

A flat and stable floor surface

The lower base must also make even contact with a flat and stable floor. The tall cat tree should already be vertically aligned before final tension is applied.

A thick soft carpet, unstable floor covering, uneven tiles or a surface that compresses under pressure may interfere with correct alignment. If the floor covering settles over time, the tensioning mechanism should be checked again.

The stable floor and strong ceiling form the two end supports between which the complete structure operates. Even a robust M12 mechanism cannot function correctly if one of these surfaces is soft, mobile or insufficiently strong.

60 × 60 cm base and efficient use of vertical space

EX-S-MAX-2 stands on a 60 × 60 cm base. Compared with an extensive freestanding cat tree, it occupies a relatively limited area of floor while providing four resting levels and a long vertical climbing route.

The base forms the lower support point and carries the weight of the complete structure and the cats using it. Working together with the ceiling plate, it creates a stabilised axis through the height of the room.

The hammocks extend beyond the outline of the base, so the actual usable area is larger than 60 × 60 cm. Space must be left for lateral jumps, the long body of a Maine Coon, hanging paws and tail, and safe access to and from the beds.

Substantial 18 cm diameter posts

One of the most important features of EX-S-MAX-2 is its 18 cm diameter scratching posts. They are noticeably thicker than the posts used on many conventional floor-to-ceiling cat trees and form a substantial central axis.

The increased diameter provides a broad sisal-rope surface. A Maine Coon can place its front paws high, grip firmly with its claws and use the post both for scratching and for pulling its complete body upwards while climbing.

A thick post is also less prone to lateral movement during energetic activity. This is especially important in a ceiling-height structure with hammocks positioned at several heights and loaded from different directions.

The complete length of the post axis is adapted to the room height. Individual sections provide scratching surfaces between the successive resting zones.

Two large 62 × 72 cm single hammocks

The model includes two single hammocks with frames measuring 62 × 72 cm. The actual usable resting area is approximately 55 × 62 cm.

For a Maine Coon, the area inside the frame on which the body actually rests is especially important. A 55 × 62 cm surface allows a large cat to position its torso comfortably, curl up, lie on its side or rest its head and front paws against the edge.

A hammock supports the body differently from a rigid shelf. The fabric settles gently beneath the animal and partly surrounds its sides. This creates a soft place for prolonged sleep while remaining open enough for the cat to observe the room.

The two single hammocks form independent zones at different heights. The cat can change level according to sunlight, temperature, household activity and whether it prefers to rest closer to the floor or observe the surroundings from above.

70 × 70 cm double hammock

The most distinctive feature of EX-S-MAX-2 is its double hammock with a 70 × 70 cm frame. The resting surface measures approximately 45 × 65 cm, and the structure creates two soft levels positioned one above the other.

The double arrangement increases the number of beds without making the complete cat tree substantially wider. The cat can select the upper or lower level, and in a multi-cat home the separate sections may be used by two compatible animals.

The lower level is partially sheltered by the upper part of the hammock and may suit a cat seeking a quieter position. The upper level remains more open and can function as an observation point.

The fabric of both levels adapts to the cat’s shape and helps distribute the weight of a large animal. The double hammock therefore creates a different environment from either a rigid platform or an enclosed house.

Different heights and degrees of enclosure

Combining two single hammocks with a double hammock gives the cat four resting places with slightly different characteristics. The single hammocks provide open beds with a broad view, while the double design also offers a more sheltered lower zone.

The cat can choose according to its immediate needs. When observing the household, it may select a higher and more open level; for deeper sleep, it may choose a lower or partly sheltered hammock.

Different heights also help divide the structure between several animals. Cats do not have to lie directly beside one another in order to use the cat tree simultaneously.

A vertical climbing and activity route

EX-S-MAX-2 uses the complete room height as an activity route. The cat can move between hammocks, climb the thick posts, grip the sisal and occupy progressively higher positions.

For a young and mobile Maine Coon, climbing opportunities are as important as sleeping space. Moving between levels engages the muscles, requires balance and allows the cat to satisfy its natural preference for elevated positions.

The cat tree can be used from morning to evening for stretching after waking, claw care, energetic climbing, observing the surroundings and quiet rest.

Loads distributed across several levels

Four resting places distribute the cats’ activity across different heights. Instead of one large bed carrying every animal, the structure contains several independent zones.

This is particularly useful in a multi-cat household. One cat can rest in a single hammock, another use the upper double-hammock level and a third occupy the lower section.

Loads may consequently act on different parts of the structure at the same time. This makes the 18 cm posts, strong connections, correctly adjusted M12 mechanism and regular inspection especially important.

Open layout without an enclosed house

EX-S-MAX-2 does not contain an enclosed house or tunnel. All principal resting places are hammocks, giving the cat a broad field of vision and allowing it to monitor the room easily.

The model suits cats that are reluctant to enter enclosed dens or prefer to remain aware of their surroundings while resting. At the same time, the hammock fabric partially surrounds the body and provides soft lateral support.

The open construction also gives easy access to every element for vacuuming, hair removal, cover replacement and inspection of the frames and connections.

A cat tree for several large cats

Two single hammocks and two double-hammock levels make EX-S-MAX-2 suitable as a shared structure for several large cats. Each animal can select a separate position and maintain more distance from the others.

The number of beds does not guarantee that every cat will use the tree simultaneously. This depends on their temperament, relationship and way of sharing territory. Four levels nevertheless provide considerably more flexibility than a single hammock on one post.

When several Maine Coons use the structure intensively, all connections and the ceiling tension should be inspected particularly regularly. Loads may occur at several heights and from different directions at the same time.

Removable washable covers

The hammock covers can be removed, making regular hair removal and thorough cleaning easier. The material is designed for washing at temperatures up to 40°C.

This is particularly valuable with large long-haired cats that use the beds intensively and leave considerable amounts of hair. A removable cover can be cleaned more thoroughly than a permanently fixed surface.

The cover should be completely dry and correctly refitted before use. The fabric, fasteners and areas carrying the greatest body load should also be inspected periodically.

Separate replacement cover set

A separate set containing three covers matched to the model is available for EX-S-MAX-2. This allows every textile component to be renewed without replacing the posts, base and remaining structural elements.

The covers may wear before the wooden frames and posts, especially when several heavy cats use the tree. Availability of a separate set extends the practical service life of the complete product.

A second set can be used while the first is being washed or selected later to change the colour of the cat tree.

Service and replaceable components

EX-S-MAX-2 is designed for long-term use. Wear to one cover, post or frame does not necessarily mean that the complete cat tree must be replaced.

The ability to replace individual components is particularly important with large cats that place greater loads on the hammocks and use sisal surfaces intensively. Renewing selected parts allows the main structure to remain in service.

Periodic inspection of the rope, covers, connections and tensioning system helps identify components that require tightening, cleaning or replacement.

Customisable appearance

Available fabric, wood and rope colours can be selected during configuration. Options relating to the base, its underside and engraving are also available.

A floor-to-ceiling cat tree is a tall and highly visible part of the interior. Coordinating the wood, fabric and rope allows it to suit a living room, bedroom, dedicated cat room or cattery.

The visible wooden elements give the structure the character of a piece of furniture, while the large textile hammocks provide soft areas for everyday rest.

Correct installation and periodic inspection

The safety of EX-S-MAX-2 depends on correct assembly. After installation, vertical alignment, even base contact, connection tightness and correct M12 tension must all be checked.

The cat tree should be inspected again after the first days of intensive use. Components may settle slightly under pressure, while repeated jumps by a heavy cat affect every connection.

Inspection should also be repeated periodically and after moving the structure, changing the floor covering, renovating the room or noticing increased movement. The tensioning mechanism should remain firmly supported between a stable floor and suitable ceiling.

Which cats is EX-S-MAX-2 designed for?

The model has been developed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large, active cats. It is best suited to animals that enjoy climbing, sleeping in hammocks and observing the room from elevated positions.

EX-S-MAX-2 is particularly suitable for a home with one highly active cat or several compatible Maine Coons. Four resting places provide more freedom of choice than a structure equipped with only one or two beds.

Before purchase, the cat’s size, weight, age, mobility and jumping style should be considered together with the number of animals and the type of floor and ceiling at the intended installation point.
