The EX-MAX-8 Maine Coon cat tree is a tall and extensive structure from the MAX range, designed specifically for large and heavy cats. It combines six substantial scratching posts with five principal resting zones: two single hammocks, a spacious enclosed house and two large rosette beds. The cat can scratch, climb, observe the room from above and choose between open and more sheltered places to rest.
EX-MAX-8 has been developed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large, powerfully built cats, including animals weighing more than 8 kg. Enlarged resting elements and 18 cm diameter posts meet the needs of cats for which standard cat trees are often too small, low, narrow or insufficiently stable.
A distinctive feature of the model is its combination of several different resting styles. The two hammocks provide flexible body support, the rosette beds create open resting areas with raised surrounds, and the house gives the cat a more private place to hide. This makes the cat tree suitable both for an animal that enjoys observing the household and for one that seeks a quieter sleeping place.
The complete structure stands on a square 80 × 80 cm base. It is larger than the bases used on many lower EX-MAX models, which is especially important with an overall cat-tree height of more than two metres.
The broad footprint helps maintain stability while the cat climbs, scratches the posts and jumps onto elevated beds. With a large cat, the dynamic load generated during a jump can be considerably greater than its stationary body weight, making the extensive base an important part of the structure.
The cat tree should be placed on an even, firm and stable floor. Adequate free space should be left around it so that a Maine Coon can jump onto the hammocks and rosette beds, turn its body and climb down without hitting nearby walls, windowsills or furniture.
The overall height of EX-MAX-8 is 212 cm. The model uses vertical space to create an extensive environment for climbing, resting and observing the surroundings. Despite the number of elements, its principal floor footprint remains limited to the dimensions of the base.
The elevated position of some resting areas responds to a cat’s natural preference for observing the room from above. For many cats, a higher zone provides a calmer place to rest while still allowing them to monitor what is happening in the home.
The multi-level arrangement also allows the cat to change location throughout the day. It can rest in one of the hammocks, move into the house or choose one of the rosette beds. The structure is therefore not limited to a single sleeping place at the top.
The EX-MAX-8 structure is supported by six posts with a diameter of 18 cm. They are considerably thicker than the posts found on many standard cat trees. Their large diameter increases the scratching area and provides substantial support for the tall, multi-level structure.
The model uses posts measuring 18 cm, 2 × 30 cm, 70 cm, 100 cm and 120 cm. The shorter sections help create suitable spacing between individual elements, while the longer posts provide extensive surfaces for a large cat to scratch and climb.
Several posts positioned throughout the structure allow the cat to use different parts of the tree. The animal is not restricted to one vertical scratching section but can scratch, support its paws and move between levels in several ways.
The longest post is 120 cm long. It allows a large cat to place its front paws high, straighten its back and extend a considerable part of its body while scratching. This is especially important for adult Maine Coons, whose long torso and limbs require more space than those of an average cat.
A post that is too short forces a large cat to scratch with strongly bent legs or in a crouched position. A long scratching section allows the tree to be used not only for claw care but also for naturally stretching the muscles of the back, shoulders and legs.
Regular scratching helps remove the outer layers of the claws, stretch the body and leave natural scent markings. A suitably long and broad scratching area is therefore one of the most important elements in a home with a large cat.
EX-MAX-8 is equipped with two single hammocks measuring 62 × 72 cm externally. The actual resting surface of each hammock is approximately 55 × 62 cm, providing enough room for an adult Maine Coon.
A hammock supports the body differently from a rigid shelf. Its fabric settles beneath the cat and allows it to rest within the sleeping surface. The sides partially surround the torso, creating a softer and more sheltered position.
The generous surface allows the cat to lie centrally, rest its head or paws against the edge, curl its body or adopt a partially extended position. This is particularly important for large cats that cannot change position freely in a small hammock.
Two separate hammocks provide more flexibility than a single bed. The cat can change resting height, and in a multi-cat household two animals may use separate zones without having to occupy the same hammock.
The central, more enclosed resting place is a house with an internal diameter of 50 cm. It is 40 cm high and its upper lid has a diameter of 56 cm. The dimensions have been selected for large cats that require considerably more room than is available inside the small houses fitted to many conventional cat trees.
The house creates a quieter zone for sleeping and privacy. The cat can hide from activity in the room, rest in a more shaded location or use the interior as a secure retreat.
Internal diameter is particularly important in a cat house because it determines the actual space available. The 50 cm interior allows a larger animal to position its body, turn around and settle comfortably without squeezing into a small enclosure.
The house distinguishes EX-MAX-8 from models based exclusively on open beds. The cat tree can therefore suit an animal that spends part of the day observing its surroundings but prefers a more sheltered place for longer sleep.
The model includes two rosette beds with an internal diameter of 50 cm. The upper element of each bed has a diameter of 56 cm. The raised surround creates a clearly defined resting zone and provides support for the cat’s back, head or paws.
The internal diameter is the most important measurement of a rosette bed because it determines the actual surface available within the raised edge. A 50 cm interior meets the needs of larger cats for which standard circular beds may be too restrictive.
Rosette beds combine the benefits of an open observation point with partial enclosure. The cat retains a clear view of the room while being able to rest its body against a soft raised edge.
Two separate beds of this type allow the cat to change its resting place and improve functionality in a multi-cat home. Individual animals can select separate rosettes or occupy other elements of the tree.
The combination of two hammocks, one house and two rosette beds means that EX-MAX-8 offers five principal resting areas. Each supports the body differently and provides a different degree of enclosure.
The hammocks adapt to the cat’s shape, the rosette beds provide open spaces with raised edges, and the house creates an enclosed interior. The cat can therefore change location according to temperature, time of day, its need to observe the surroundings and its preferred sleeping position.
This extensive equipment removes the need to select one compromise bed. The model can suit a cat that enjoys open elevated positions as well as one that seeks a soft hammock or a quiet hiding place.
EX-MAX-8 is not simply a collection of beds. Posts of different lengths and elements positioned on several levels create space for climbing, stretching and moving vertically.
The cat can use the structure after waking, during play, while observing household members and when resting. Moving between levels engages the body and enriches the environment of an indoor cat.
An extensive vertical environment is particularly valuable in a home where the cat cannot climb outdoors. It allows the animal to satisfy its preference for elevated positions without using wardrobes, shelving or other household furniture.
The number of resting areas means that EX-MAX-8 can also be a practical option in a multi-cat household. Individual animals can occupy separate hammocks, rosette beds or the house and observe the room from different heights.
A large number of beds does not guarantee that every cat will use the tree simultaneously, because this depends on their relationship and individual preferences. It does, however, provide considerably more opportunities to divide the space than a structure containing one or two resting places.
The model can also be useful in a cattery or a home with several Maine Coons, where hammocks, posts and beds are used more frequently and intensively.
A separate set of replacement covers is available for EX-MAX-8. This makes it possible to renew the textile elements of the hammocks, house and resting areas after extended use without replacing the complete structure.
The option to replace covers is especially important when the cat tree is used intensively by a large cat or several animals. Resting elements may wear sooner than the wooden structure and posts, so their availability as replacement components extends the practical life of the product.
A second set of covers can be used alternately, help keep the tree in suitable condition or provide a later change of colour.
Available fabric, wood, mat and rope colours, as well as options for the interior of the house, can be selected when ordering. This makes it possible to coordinate the cat tree with a living room, bedroom, dedicated cat room or cattery.
EX-MAX-8 is 212 cm high and therefore forms a visible element of the interior. The selection of wood, fabric and rope consequently affects not only practical use but also the overall appearance of the room.
A coordinated combination of colours helps unite the functionality of a large cat tree with the style of the interior. The available variants should be compared before ordering so that the final configuration suits both the cat and the home.
The model has been developed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large cats, including animals weighing more than 8 kg. Selection should, however, take into account not only weight but also body length, activity level, age and preferred resting habits.
EX-MAX-8 is particularly suitable for a cat that enjoys elevated positions, uses hammocks, needs an enclosed house and frequently changes resting place. The two rosette beds provide open observation points, while the long scratching surfaces allow the body to stretch more freely.
The cat’s mobility should also be considered because of the height of the structure. A young and active Maine Coon may use all levels easily, while an older cat or one with limited mobility may require a simpler route between the individual elements.
EX-MAX-8 is a tall and extensive Maine Coon cat tree combining six thick posts, two large hammocks, a spacious house and two rosette beds. It provides a large cat with several ways to rest, long scratching surfaces, climbing opportunities and elevated observation points.
