The EX-MAX-12 Maine Coon cat tree is the largest, heaviest and most extensive freestanding model in the EX-MAX range. It is Rufi’s flagship structure, developed for exceptionally large cats and for homes or catteries in which several Maine Coons use the same cat tree. At 235 cm high, approximately 200 cm wide and weighing around 250 kg, it is not a conventional cat tree placed discreetly in a corner, but a full-sized centre for activity, rest and observation.

EX-MAX-12 combines numerous 18 cm diameter scratching posts, two very large structural platforms, two hammocks, two round dish beds, two suspended beds, two paddle-style beds and a house integrated into a platform. Counting both levels of the double hammock, the model provides as many as ten principal resting places, without including the additional large platforms that can also be used for movement, observation and short periods of rest.

The model has been designed primarily for Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and other large and heavy cats. The scale of the complete structure, the number of independent beds and the extensive network of routes make EX-MAX-12 a central environment for an entire group of cats rather than a single scratching station.

The largest flagship model in the EX-MAX range

EX-MAX-12 reaches 235 cm in height and approximately 200 cm in overall width. Its scale is comparable to that of a large piece of furniture, using both vertical space and a considerable width of the room. Extending the structure in several directions separates the individual zones and reduces the need for cats to share one narrow route or compete for one bed.

A weight of approximately 250 kg clearly distinguishes EX-MAX-12 from lightweight mass-produced cat trees. This very high mass, combined with multiple support points, thick posts and broad structural platforms, provides exceptional resistance to rocking and movement when large cats jump onto the structure.

This model is intended for customers who do not want to compromise between size and equipment. EX-MAX-12 has been developed as a complete feline environment with open positions, more sheltered areas, soft hammocks, broad platforms, observation zones and numerous scratching surfaces.

Exceptional stability during dynamic use

A large cat does not load a cat tree only with its stationary body weight. When jumping, stopping suddenly, climbing a post or pushing off from a side bed, it produces considerably greater dynamic forces. With several active Maine Coons, loads may also occur simultaneously in different parts of the structure.

EX-MAX-12 manages these loads through its very high overall mass, its network of substantial 18 cm posts and the wide platforms connecting the individual sections. The weight is not concentrated around one tall central column but distributed across an extensive system of supports and levels.

The model is therefore designed for intensive use by heavy cats that jump onto side beds, move across the platforms and occupy different levels at the same time. The structure must nevertheless be assembled correctly and positioned on an even, firm and suitably load-bearing floor.

70 × 100 cm base and two exceptionally large platforms

The main base measures 70 × 100 cm and is manufactured from lacquered hardwood plywood. It forms the lower foundation of the structure and provides stable support for the first posts and elements leading to the upper levels.

The model also includes a large 65 × 94 cm platform and a long 40 × 92 cm platform. These are not small steps intended only for passing through. Their surface gives a large cat room to stand, turn around, lie down or pause before moving to the next element.

The platforms help create more convenient routes between different sections of the cat tree. In an extensive multi-cat structure, broad passages are particularly valuable because one cat may pass another or select an alternative route without having to walk directly through an occupied bed.

Numerous 18 cm diameter scratching posts

A defining feature of the EX-MAX range is its exceptionally thick 18 cm diameter posts. On EX-MAX-12 they are distributed throughout the complete structure and function simultaneously as supports, vertical climbing routes and extensive scratching surfaces.

The structure uses posts measuring 18, 30, 40, 49 and 80 cm. The longest 80 cm sections give a large cat a substantial vertical surface on which it can place its front paws, grip the sisal firmly and extend a significant part of its body. The shorter sections create the successive levels and offer additional scratching areas while the cat moves around the structure.

The distribution of numerous posts reduces the need for every cat to use the same scratching point. Animals can scratch in separate parts of EX-MAX-12, climb different supports and choose the surface nearest their current resting area.

Regular scratching helps remove the outer layers of the claws, stretch the muscles and satisfy natural territorial marking behaviour. The large number of thick posts means that scratching is not merely an addition to the beds, but one of the principal functions of the complete structure.

Two large 65 cm round dish beds

EX-MAX-12 includes two round dish beds with a diameter of 65 cm. These are among the largest open resting areas in the range and provide an adult Maine Coon with considerably more room than conventional platforms measuring 40–50 cm.

The large circular surface allows the cat to rest curled up, semi-reclined or with some of its paws extended. The beds can be used for prolonged sleep as well as for observing the room from an elevated position.

Two separate round beds allow more than one cat to use this type of resting area. They also enable a single animal to change height or side according to sunlight, temperature and activity in the room.

70 × 70 cm double hammock

One of the central resting zones is a 70 × 70 cm double hammock. Its construction creates two separate soft levels positioned one above the other. This increases the number of beds without making the structure even wider.

The hammock fabric adapts to the cat’s body and supports it differently from a rigid platform. A Maine Coon can settle into the surface, curl up, rest its head or paws against the edge and distribute its body weight comfortably.

The two levels give the cat a choice between a more open position and one partly sheltered by the upper section. In a home with several compatible cats, two animals may also rest on different hammock levels.

Large 70 × 70 cm single hammock

In addition to the double hammock, EX-MAX-12 contains a 70 × 70 cm single hammock. It creates another spacious and flexible resting area for a cat that particularly enjoys soft suspended beds.

The large frame is better suited to the proportions of a Maine Coon. The cat can lie centrally, support its paws and head against the sides or adopt a more extended position than would be possible in a small hammock designed for an average cat.

Separating the single hammock from the double hammock creates another independent zone. This is valuable in a multi-cat home because animals can occupy soft beds in different parts of the structure without directly competing for one position.

Two 60 cm suspended beds

The model is equipped with two suspended beds with a diameter of 60 cm. Their form provides soft, partly recessed support that differs both from a flat platform and from a conventional rectangular hammock.

A 60 cm diameter provides a large cat with suitable room to position its torso and distribute its body weight. A suspended bed can partly surround the body and suit cats that prefer soft lateral support while sleeping.

Two independent beds increase the number of available resting areas and add further variety to the structure. The cat can choose between different heights, sides and degrees of enclosure.

Two 60 cm paddle-style beds

EX-MAX-12 also includes two paddle-style beds with a diameter of 60 cm. Their side-mounted position creates open observation points extending beyond the main line of the structure.

A 60 cm paddle-style bed is not merely a small sitting platform. It gives an adult Maine Coon enough surface to support most of its body, rest, observe the room or prepare to move to the next level.

The two paddle beds also improve movement between sections. They can function as independent beds, intermediate steps and points from which the cat chooses its next route.

House integrated into a large platform

The more sheltered resting area is a house integrated into a platform. Its internal diameter is 50 cm, the upper lid measures 56 cm in diameter and the house is approximately 40 cm high. These dimensions provide a larger cat with enough room to enter, turn around and settle comfortably.

The house gives the cat a quieter and more secluded sleeping place. It can be used for prolonged rest, hiding from activity in the room or calming down after energetic play.

Integrating the house into a platform gives the element more than one function. The interior creates an enclosed retreat, while the upper area can be used as another route or observation surface.

Ten principal resting places

Counting both levels of the double hammock, EX-MAX-12 offers ten principal resting zones: two round dish beds, two double-hammock levels, one single hammock, two suspended beds, two paddle-style beds and one house.

In addition, the model provides two large platforms on which a cat can pause, lie down or observe the room. This extensive arrangement separates sleeping, observation, climbing and movement between levels.

Different bed types give the cat a choice between firm open surfaces, flexible hammocks, soft suspended beds and an enclosed house. One model can therefore meet the different preferences of several cats rather than forcing every animal to use the same type of bed.

EX-MAX-12 is particularly well suited to a multi-cat home. Its approximately 200 cm width, numerous independent resting areas and several routes allow animals to occupy separate parts of the structure.

A large number of beds does not automatically mean that every group of cats will use the tree simultaneously. This depends on their temperament, relationships and preferred personal space. The structure nevertheless provides considerably greater opportunities to divide the available territory than a conventional tree with one hammock and one platform.

The model can be especially practical in a Maine Coon cattery, multi-cat home or room dedicated entirely to cats. Numerous sleeping, observation and scratching areas distribute the activity of the group across different elements.

Convenient routes between the levels

On a structure of this scale, the number of beds is not the only important factor. The route between them also matters. The large platforms, paddle beds, house platform and multiple posts create several possible directions of movement.

The cat does not have to make one high jump directly from the floor to an upper bed. It can use successive elements as steps, pause on a platform and select another route according to which beds are currently occupied.

This is especially valuable when several cats share the structure. Alternative routes reduce the risk of one animal completely blocking access to the upper levels.

A model requiring a suitably large room

EX-MAX-12 is not intended for every interior. Before ordering, its 235 cm height, approximately 200 cm width, depth of the individual elements and the space needed for cats to jump freely must all be taken into account.

The installation location should be planned in advance. Room height, doors, radiators, windowsills and surrounding furniture should be checked, while sufficient access should be retained for cleaning and future component replacement.

Because the structure weighs around 250 kg, it is not intended to be moved frequently after assembly. The final position should be selected from the beginning on an even and suitably strong floor.

Pallet delivery and planning access

Due to its weight and dimensions, EX-MAX-12 is shipped on a pallet. Delivery of such a large model is different from receiving a conventional cat tree in several small parcels.

Vehicle access, the pallet delivery point and the route to the installation room should be considered before delivery. The components are large and heavy, so the assembly area should be prepared in advance.

The most practical approach is to move the separate elements directly into the final room and assemble the cat tree where it will remain. This avoids having to reposition a complete structure weighing approximately a quarter of a tonne.

Replaceable covers and long-term renewal

A separate complete replacement cover set is available for EX-MAX-12. This is particularly important for a cat tree intended for several large cats, because the hammocks and other resting surfaces will be used intensively.

Removing, washing or later replacing selected textile elements helps keep the structure in suitable condition. A second set can be used while the first is being washed or to change the appearance of the cat tree after several years.

Replaceable components mean that such an extensive structure does not have to be treated as disposable furniture. Worn covers, sisal surfaces and other elements can be renewed while the main construction remains in use.

Materials, finish and personalisation

The base and large platforms are manufactured from lacquered hardwood plywood. The wooden components create a rigid structure and give the model the appearance of a full-sized piece of furniture intended for permanent use.

Available fabric, wood, house-interior, mat, rope, engraving and base options can be selected during configuration. Colour selection is especially important with a model of this scale, because EX-MAX-12 becomes one of the most visible elements in the room.
